Bring Back Transfat!
Are flourescent (tube) lights going to cause probems? If so, what's the best high volume lighting solution?

Florescent lights sometimes cause hum. It's not really the bulb, but the ballast (basically a transformer) that causes the problem. Standard incadescent bulbs are normaly quiet but they can also cause a lot of hum if you use a dimmer switch.

Funny you should ask, my lighting was just installed yesterday. I think a variety of lighting is best. I have four options:

- halogens on the wet bar (the rack)

- halogen tracks near the wall

- halogen cans in the floating cloud

- compact flourescent cans in the floating cloud

The flourescents are for general desk work, the halogens are quieter. The track lights make for good mood lighting.

I do recommend getting the wattage of the halogen bulbs right, because good dimmer switches--the ones that don't spit out EMI--are rather expensive. So get the lighting options set on individual switches so you don't need dimmers.
