I'm about to build a control room, and I would like some other optintions as to what layout would be best. I did some searching on Triangular Control Room layouts, but couldn't find anything. I would like to build my control room into the corner of my room. I believe this will break up the square configuration of the current room and will give me the room needed to do my mixing and recording. What are your opinions?

studio options.webp

Well, you couldn't find anything because it is not a good idea to place anything in a corner. You are better off sharing the whole space as control room/tracking room.

+1^^^

What are the control room dimensions? Looks like it's going to be pretty tight, being that small it could also cause it to be boomy when your listening back. Out of those if you had to choose, I would do 2 or 4. I don't like the idea of the weird triangular-ish shaped rooms

Well, construction started last night and I went with option 1. I liked this non uniform look as it would give me full view of the practice/recording room from the control room. The control room is smaller than I would prefer, but there is room enough to work. I need as much room as I can get for the Live Room.

#5 is the only choice had someone done some research or listened to advice. :D

Might as well squeeze in a 2'X2' vocal booth in there too.

Yeah, not to rain on your parade oh JediDude....
but I don't think you're gonna be happy at all with a CR that small.
The nulls, standing waves and bass freqs are gonna stomp shit out of every mix you try.

But since you're already in the build, try it. Maybe you can get it to work for ya.
If (when :D) it doesn't, it won't be too hard to pull it back out.
:drunk:

Yeah, I wish the best of luck with the build, but your design has broken at least 5 rules that are expressed over and over in every studio build forum. Small size, no symmetry, in a corner, monitors against wall, short distance between monitors and back wall. This placement is probably the most likely to give you 'every' possible problem when mixing/recording, except for ability to view the band members and possibly have some very limited isolation from them.

I lol'd:laughings:

Yeah, acoustics are 90% of the sound when using cardoid mics, and you just took the acoustics of that room and killed it...

What's the other 10%?

Light waves? Gravity? Furry closet monsters?......Ok I actually have no idea.

I am guessing that by saying 90% percent, you're commited to thinking acoustics matter, but are not ENTIRELY sure, so you are leaving yourself some wiggle room in case for some reason acoustics don't matter?
