Studio in a box with simultaneous 8-in?

Ok, I've looked at the Korg d1600 and a Yamaha and a couple of other choices. I want a studio in a box that will record 8 tracks simultaneously at least 16-bit non-compressed. I don't care much about features or DSP on the unit itself as I will dump it directly to Sonar for tweakage. Who has one that they use and would recommend? This is going to be my mobile solution for now as the laptop interfaces I've looked at scare me a little. My P3 450mghz laptop won't quite cut a firewire solution.
