I am looking for a good set of headphones to use for recording vocals, drums and mixing. For the past few months I have been using a cheap pair from Radio Shack, but now I'm looking to upgrade a little. Can anyone suggest a good pair around the $6o price range? I have been looking at a set of Audio-Technica ATH-PRO5MS. Thanks!

I would suggest the search feature, as this is a very common question.

My rec: ATH-M40FS

Sennheiser HD280 are also popular

I have the Sennheiser HD280's and I love them, they have plenty of noise cancellation for recording drums, and provide a great mix...also they are only $100.00

i personally use the AKG K-44, very cheap and although many people dislike them I stand by them 100%. Also.. when I master, I test my mix with a pair of pro-35s (radio shack HPs) on a discman.

Ive got 4 pair of sennheiser's I paid about 20 a pair (cant remember model number off hand) and love them. Ive got a $100 pair of yamahas and a few $60 sony's and the cheap Sennheiser beat them

I have a pair of AKG M80, K55, and K66's. As well as Sennheiser HD465 and the HD280.

Hands down the HD280's win, but they should from my lineup as they were the most expensive at $100. They clearly have the best sound, and very good noise isolation.

I have the Sennheiser HD280 and several Sony MDR7506s. Both are $99 everywhere.

The Sennheisers cover your whole ear and so the isolation is a little better, but they sound much darker than the 7506s.

The 7506s are by far my favorite phones.

another vote for the Sony 7406's. Very comfortable fit, sound fidelity that allows complete audibility.

I know it's not quite in this price range, but a/b comparison between the sennheiser 280 and the beyer dynamics dt770 was mind boggling and the 770s are much more comfortable and have less ear fatigue. I know they 770 are about 200 bucks, but you can likely find them used for cheaper and I know the guys at my local guitar center said they'de let me walk out of the store tax included for 170.

Ive got a pair of the ATH M40 fs, a cheap pair of Sennheiser HD201's, AKG K271 and AKG K501.

They all serve their purpose. The K271 are expensive but to me they sound the best and have the best isolation - but the ATH's do a great job for their price range - and I find myself using them alot too. The K501's are open backed - so their no good for tracking - but it cuts WAY back on ear fatigue and they sound great. The HD201's are cheap but useful...I use them for tracking with alot of people.
