Studio Equipment Overview

Hello Everyone. Well I was wondering if anyone can help me out. Check out the picture below of the equipment I use. First off I was wondering.

1. I have another rack mount EQ , thats not listed where can I use it within my set-up.

2. I also have another compressor, Where can I use that?

3. What else can I purchase to upgrade my Studio Equipment?

Thanks in Advance :)

Ditch the Behringer and get any real mixer. Where is the rest of the mic cabinet?-Richie

:)

Yes I do plan to invest in a Mackie soon. I only use the one Marshall Mic because thats all I need to use. I am a Hip-Hop Producer. At this time I have no need for more mics.

Anyone else?

I'm assuming your diagram is a flow chart. A couple of things look wrong to me. First, you have a graphic EQ between your mixer and monitor amp. Big mistake in my humble opinion. This is only going to color your play back system and just make it harder to learn how it resolves what's coming through it. It's a better idea to learn how your system REALLY sounds than dial in a "happy face" response with a cheap EQ.
Second, you have a compressor in line on the mic. That won't work at all for a couple of reasons. First, no phantom power for that condensor from a compressor. Second, no preamplification for the mic. If you want to use a compressor for that mic, you'll have to patch it through a channel insert on the mixer channel the mic is plugged into.

Thanks for responding Track Rat

First, So Should I just get rid of the EQ for now? Just so that I can actually the true sounds that I am making?

Second, My mixer has a mic preamp built in it. Should I purchase a separate Mic Preamp, then run it through the compressor then to the mic? Is that what you mean when you said this?? --- "Second, no preamplification for the mic. If you want to use a compressor for that mic, you'll have to patch it through a channel insert on the mixer channel the mic is"

Thanks in advance.

ANYONE ELSE????

What he means is that the preamp must come before the compressor. So the mic should go into the board and then the compressor should be plugged into the board via the insert points (a one jack solution for effects send and return).

To hell with phantom power. If you're tracking hip-hop/rap, I would say lose the Marshall mic and replace it with a good dynamic, say Shure SM-7.-Richie

Track Rat is right about the EQ...

You certainly don't need them for near field monitors.

You might, however, keep it if you intend to install larger monitors. Then, using a pink noise generator and spectrum analyzer (borrowed or rented) set the EQ to tune your monitors to the room. It will give you another reference... as well as a setup to "crank it up" a notch or two.:D

I think you might like the SM-7, as well.

OK thanks alot Track, King, and Richard.

Everyone here is very helpful :)
