I've been looking for a good solid door for our control room and i can't seem to find anything beside semi-solid, etc. Can anyone shed any light on this, im ready to build a door at this point, wondering if anyone has done this or has any suggestions/plans?

Skip the home centers and find a millwork dealer in your area, they should be able to order a solid core exterior door.

Find a builder's surplus place.

I originally found solid core doors at Lowes for about $70 each. I needed 8!

At a surplus place I got 12 of them, brand new (still banded together) for $200. Less than $17 a piece. 1-3/8" solid core (particle board) faced with birch. They were 4" taller than I needed but so what?

Shop around it pays...

I just got mine at the local building depot megastore. I just had to cut it down for proper height. That's my interior studio door. I'm glad I also have a steel door on the outside of the threshold. Together, they just barely get the job done of keeping the interior quiet. Mine is below threshold of hearing quiet, which is good, because I use omni mikes all the time.

Cheers,

Otto
