Seven months after moving, I've finally gotten to some real studio construction. Here are some rack construction pics. I built my rack into an existing built-in bookshelf/entertainment center/wet bar :)

Pic #1: shelf above space for TV removed

Pic #4: rack gear installed. It's still only about 1/2 wired, but this gets me 2 mic inputs and 2.1 monitoring (sitting on the countertop :o )

It still needs filling, finished, and a glass door salvaged from an old home stereo tower case cut to size and installed. I'll try to get the glass door in this week :)

Stage 2, I'm gonna build a few framed wall-mount absorbers, and stuff some 4" rigid fiberglass over the bookshelves for some temporary treatment.

Stage 3 construction involves tearing the drywall off the ceiling & walls, installing mic cable in the walls, mounting newly built monitors in the walls, rebuilding soundproof walls & ceiling, building a floating cloud, and adding 5.1 surround  A little bit harder, I think

Books are actually reall good for acoustics. They act as really good diffusors because each one in a shelf tends to be a different height, depth, and thickness. Book shelves are actually recommended for that quite often if you've got no other means to diffuse sound.

Right now I face the bookshelves, so they probably have little effect. In the final layout I will be facing away from the shelves, towards the other side of room. Thus the shelves will be on the back wall, where diffusion might be helpful. At least that's the plan :o

Cool pics man.... :D
I'd show my "Studio", but none of y'all could handle it. You'd cream your shorts with jealousy....

Nice rack MS.............

I'm still only halfway through Stage 3, specifically the part about tearing off the drywall :(

Awesome rack. Make sure to not totally remove the "wet bar" portion of it. Books, shmooks, you just need some nice, round reflective bottles and you're set. :)

That's a given, as it services the aquarium, which is essential as fish are my studio mascots :)

Dude, that's freaking awesome. I'm building a rack, but it's a wee bit smaller. I'm getting the pieces cut tomorrow (I got the wood and put down all the lines for it) and I'll screw it together next friday. I'll put some pictures up then. :)
