Hey Fender Man:
Good cables cause much chat on many sites; however, I have found that using quality cables DOES help get that magic mix everyone looks for.
Mogami cables are probably good but I've never used them in my studio.
I did buy a MONSTER cable wired specifically for a synth keyboard and it is a winner. It ran about 39 bucks from a catalog music store.
I also have a gaggle of PRO-Co cables, 1/4 in plugs, and they have held up very well. But every once in a while, a cable will lose its stuff and a "hum" will come and go until I find the bad cable which only takes a few minutes of jiggling wires while my unit is activated.
I also have a MONSTER mic cable which also produces a quieter sound than a normal cable.
If you are in the states of the US, I'd suggest trying one mid-quality MOnster cable; yeah, man, they make them in quality price groups like round steak, sirloin, New York strip and filet mignon.
You can spend lots on cables but I think Mogami or Monster will make you happy.
