A miracle.

Okay then.

You need what you need. Universally speaking, the most important thing in any recording situation is your monitoring chain. That's the speakers, the main D/A, the room, the room treatments. You'll want to dump as much as possible into that. Some decent software - Reaper. $50. After that, it depends on what you're doing.

And I thought you were looking for a Studer... For $1,000... Which would be a helluva find on ebay.

hahahah, that's what I first thought too

Massive mentioned room treatment as part of the what he thinks as being the most important part; monitoring.
I'll add that room treatment is the most important part....of recording.
So in reality, room treatment is the most important part of BOTH recording and mixing. Therefore you can come to the conclusion that acoustics are pretty important. You can mix a record basically anywhere. But if the music your mixing originates from crappy stuff....your mixing skills can only go so far. It starts from the source. And part of the source is the acoustics in your room.

But of course, $1000 won't get you that AND equipment. So, uh, what do you think you need? Doing hip hop....I guess put it towards samples/MIDI equipment.

yeh my bad the typo lol

well i already have a booth with acoustic foam in it

i have pro tools

im thinking a BlueBird mic? and monitors,,,and a mixer would be a start?

correct me if im wrong

Can anyone quantify the Bluebird mic?

All I ever hear about are people (okay, I'll say it - Rappers with very limited experience) getting the Bird and complaining about their vocal tracks. I think the B-Bird is a great mic - for strings, acoustic guitar, winds, pretty nice on piano... Pretty typical LDC use.

Didn't think it was worth a bowl of warm sinus fluid on aggressive vocals... Does anyone? Really?

Has anyone put it up against a solid LDD (SM7b, RE20, etc.) and actually thought it sounded better on "non-melodic" (for lack of a better term) vocal applications?

I'm not trying to come off as "ranting" but I guess it's close... I've seen a lot of "flavor of the month" action over the last 300 months or so (God, now I feel old). But this one is really odd... They must have a marketing department like no other - Or someone "really famous" must have said that it was wonderful (whether they used it or not) and just *everyone* is eating it up. But I've yet to hear from anyone that was actually thrilled with the thing.

[EDIT]

It can't be just the style of the mic, can it?
