Hey there I'm a student with no money and need some help with acoustics. I have to record a demo for my band and i have reasonable experience and reasonable equipment with which to record. We're going to be recording in my living room which is 18 feet long by about 11 feet wide however that last few feet in length of the room is semi circular. There are thick curtains round the semi circular bit and there are 3 large soft padded couches in the room. there is also a bookshelf going along the side wall for about 5 feet full of books. the floor is carpeted and the roof is wooden. I'm just wondering without spending much or any money is there anything i can do to improve the acoustics for recording drums? would putting a few mattresses in there help? or maybe some plywood boards? im really hazarding guesses here but would any cheap household materials help? please help.

Record one musician at a time to prevent bleedover, and use tight pattern cardiode microphone.
