Strat Volume Bumping

Stand Up Comity
It seems I keep bumping the volume knob when strumming my hot-rodded Bullet. I'm thinking about moving the volume to the middle, getting rid of a tone knob and putting one of these Fat-o-caster thingies where the volume knob is now. I had a Fender Mustang which basically had neck, neck+bridge, and neck+bridge out of phase wiring. I'd like to add that to my rawkin' Squier Bullet.

Anybody have experience with this?

I've had experience bumping the volume knob...I only ever bump it up. My solution, is to turn it all the way up and use a volume pedal to control the volume. It works great, and it takes less coordination.

That's funny. Mine goes down. If I'm using a heavy distorted channel, it's hard to tell it's happening. Then when you go to clean it's gone!

Well, in that case you're stuck until they make an un-volume pedal.

Seriously, though, I wonder if they make a stiffer volume pot for your guitar that doesn't turn so easy. The volume on my PRS is much "stiffer" than the one on my strat, so unintentional brushes against it don't turn it. It's a double-edged sword, though - it's harder to grab with my pinky and adjust. (more because of the size of the knob though) So I use the volume pedal with it, too.

Maybe they'll come out with a talent pedal, too!

It's funny that you mention this problem because I have the same problem with my Ibanez SA160QM. It's really annoying because like with yours in that when I hit it the volume goes down. So when I'm into a great solo and got it cranked by the time I get half way through I'm trying to play the solo and turn the volume back up with my pinky, which doesn't work by the way, I've actually turned the volume completely off that way. So the only thing I can try to do is play closer to the neck, but that's really not a great solution. Who are the idiots who put the volume knobs in that position anyways??

I'm thinking about putting that fat-o-caster switch where the volume is and moving the volume to the middle. The fat mod gets replaces one tone control anyway.

Maybe that's why the heavy rockers wear 'em slug low? Keeps the knobs out of the way.

That is one of the things I have disliked about the Strat and Tele control layouts. The knobs and switches are always in the way of my wild strumming and Pete Townsend windmills! :D

You let him play your guitars? Cool!

If I were his tech I'd glue the pots on 10.

Careful with that.

"PLAYBOY: Was that the same hand you injurd during the 1989 Who tour?

TOWNSHEND: Yeah. That time I speared myself. I was using a guitar that was created for Eric Clapton. It had one of those whammy bars for vibrato, basically a sharp piece of metal. It went in one side of my hand and out the other. I lifted my arm and the guitar was hanging there by piece of metal through my hand."

If you swap the end lugs of the volume pot you can reverse the way it work. So it rolls the volume up when going counter clockwise.

There are three lugs. One of the end lugs is ground, so just take that and swap it to the otehr side. Bam. Reverse wired.

Just an option. :p
