Strat noise filtering while recording using NI GUITAR RIG

Hello,
Ok...I have no excuses for lack of good equipment. I'm getting this buzz when usig Native Instrument Guitar Rig when I play AND record my strat. Here is a little more about my setup:

POWERMAC G5 2.5 GHZ 1.5 GB RAM
Apple Cinema Display (should not generate as much noise as CRT screens)
MOTU MK2 Interface (firewire connected to the G5)
Focusrite Voicemaster Pro Preamp
Fender Stratocaster 50th anniversary
Sequencer software: Digital Performer 4.5

Strat ==> MK2 guitar/mic input ==> G5

Now, no matter where I am sitting in the room, I get a buzz. If I go in the next room where there are no computers or electronic equipment turned on, I get a buzz. However, the buzz intensity varies significantly with the orientation of my guitar when I play it in the room, but I can't determine what the source of the buzz is. Now the buzz is small...but it is there and depending on the type of sound I choose from Guitar Rig (distorted sounds will increase the buzz) I get different buzz intensities. Also changing pickups affects the buzz; the second position from the bottom on my Strat yields very little buzz. But the fifth position (my favourite for rythm) painfully ruins the cool sounding Strat.

1) If the buzz is caused by EM radiation of some kind (aplliances, etc), could I set my Preamp to filter this noise? If so, what frequency do I have to cut off?

2) What plugins would you suggest I use within DP4.5 to filter out some of the buzz caused by guitar recordings?

P.S. I used the same setup to record bass and still get a buzz.

Thanks for any help you could provide

Im not sure how this is done on your mac or with your software. Cool Edit has a noise reduction feature that is pretty nice. I would simply record a few seconds of the noise. Then use the noise reduction option to "capture profile" of the noise. then when you record your track, use the profile that you have saved to filter out that noise in the track. It will filter out the noise leaving just your noise free guitar track. You should go through your help files to see if you have a similar feature.

Do you still get the buzz in the middle positions on the p/u selector? This might just be single coil buzz.

Using a noise gate

Well, although shielding my strat sounds like a great option, I just don't want to void the warranty on my new strat just yet. All I could find to reduce the noise was to put my track thru a noise gate and set the High pass at 1290 hz to filter out the buzz. That number is surprisingly high since I thought most buzzes and hums were ranging between 30 and 150 hz. Anyway, If anyone knows a good plugin I can use with Dp 4.5...

Thanks

Hi
Have you thought of lighting?
As a strat player I can vouch for this noise problem.
Your new strat will be shielded enough I would think.
Can you play in the dark!!!!
Cheers
Bob

if i understood you correctly, then you may want to try simply shutting off your computer monitor - if you play guitar near one, you get some buzz and using guitar rig with any distortion or any effect really will magnify the buzz.
