Strange ADAT behavior

Hi, all - I use three blackface ADATs to transfer info into my PC/Samplitude setup. I don't use tapes anymore, but only use the units as converters. One of them has begun exhibiting a strange problem. Upon startup, the middle ADATs front panel does not show any signs of life - no lights at all, nor does it make any noise - EXCEPT that it transmits a sharp pulse across all eight tracks that it's connected to on the board in a steady rhythm of every three-quarters of a second or so. It's loud, annoying, nearly hits 0db on the faders, and since it's in the sync loop, I can't record through any of my system because the digital clock is being interrupted. It takes between 5-10 minutes to kick in, whereafter everything is then fine, unless it's cold in the studio, when it can take a half hour or more.

My thoughts are that it's probably the power supply, but I'm not sure, and I wouldn't know if there's anything that I can try to fix myself without knowing what the problem is.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Ken

IF it's the power supply, it will cost you more to repair it than a used ADAT is worth.

I got a ADAT XT-20 with broken power supply. Use it in my boat as anchor.

 Do not try to fix yourself, the power supply on a blackface is not really a transformer as such, its a large capacitor ready to shock the hell out of you.........
