Storing Audio wave files on cd

Currently I'm tracking on a stand alone studio in a box and transferring the audio wav files (6-8 tracks per song) to a cd. I then mix and master on my pc using the stored wav files from the cd and export all mixes back to the same cd. In essence I'm using a separate cd like a small hard drive per song.

I find this helps keep my song mixes organized and also keeps audio files off my os C: drive (I don't have a second hard drive).

Is this approach asking for problems?

Could, maybe. If the CD accidently gets scratched or something, you could be out an entire tune (and lots of hours of work). I myself am a little bit of a backup "freak". I have two internal harddrives on my desktop, as well as two external firewire drives, and my laptop with its internal drive. Stuff I deem important to save gets stored in at least 2 locations, and sometimes 3. I think you'll find that a lot of people go to many lengths to back stuff up. Losing quality work sucks big time.
 
internal HDs are cheap...
or maybe you can partition the HD you have?

Even with a partition, using the C Drive for audio will put excessive wear on it.
