What kinda sticks ya playing?

Pro mark 5AB
Pro mark lightning sticks
Pro mark thunder rods
Pro mark timpani mallets (for those great subtle cymbal swells)
 
For general playing:

Pro-Mark 5A nylon tip
or
wooden tip

For jazz live with acoustic instruments:

Pro-Mark or Regal
7A nylon tip


For rock:

Pro-Mark 5A or 5B

For Heavy Metal:

Pro-Mark 2B or some wicked heavy assed field drum sticks.

For more jazz and Blues:

Steel wire brushes (several pair,
some fixed, some retractable)

Nylon Brushes that I have fit with 5A tips on the other side.

For Ballads:

Tympani Mallets (yup, cant live without them) I've even made up a pair that is on the other side of 5A sticks so I don't fumble to change sticks (throws off the balance, but I learn to live with it)

I also have a steel rod fit into an old drumstick handle just to tap out a bell patern on a high pitched cowbell for West African rhythms.

jezus.. I hate this kind of questions.
Now I'm supposed to list all brands and types of drumsticks I have, why should I??!!

This kind of threads makes me really pissed off, if nobody asks you about your hobby, you make a thread like this so you can mention what kind of sticks you use like someone asked you it with a lot of interest in the choice of the 'master' and you actually don't care about the answers of other people (who respond because of the same fcking reason) 'cause you're so happy with your choice of drumsticks that you actually made this thread about it.

I use whatever is near me.

They just keep turning to sawdust.
I like 5A I think...wood...umm...
 
I'm using Tama "power tools" Model #5.

One of the local stores had them 4 pairs for $12, so I bought about 100 pairs! It's like a Promark 2S, but it's a hickory stick with a Barrel bead instead of an "olive" shaped bead.

I love the things.

I also use DC10 which is an extremely heavy Marching stick...but it's really short.

I've also used the Vic Firth Buddy Rich model, I love the shape of it, but it's too thin for comfort for me because I have fairly big hands.(I can "palm a basketball" for what it's worth.)

I use ProMark acid jazz which is a cool stick but matters not at all. However, one time I was in my favorite family-owned shop (that I've patronized since age ten--tomorrow is 32) with my daughter, she's looking at the massive rack of sticks (why are there sooo many kinds? I mean most are pretty similar, the acid jazz have a round tip so they are rather distinct. I swear, when I started playing drums three years ago, it took like a half hour for me to pick. Sorry, this parenthetical note is way too long) and the salesdude points out the junior sticks. I appreciate a good sales pitch, so now I own those too.
 
Anyone agree with me on that Pro Mark sticks last longer and take a beating better than anyother stick? (and please dont comment on Aahead metal sticks, I am refering to ones that dont distort your tone on the drums) When I first started playing, I picked up some Vic Firths and blew the little nylon tip off after 10 minuites of normal playing.
 
Promark hickory 5a or 5b's most of the time, Ahead 5a and 5b thrown in for variation. Jblount, I have to disagree when you say that Ahead sticks "distort your tone." Sometime I feel like the Ahead wood-esque tips have as woody a tone as any real wood-tip stick, and their nylon-esque tips (which are in fact, nylon) sound like any other nylon-tipped stick (giving allowance for bead shape and whatnot).

i like whatever feels good and doesn't break on me. :D

i've wandered a bit over the years. played just about everything at one point or another "just to see". i like some vic firths, they're ok--they have better give than the promarks (wrist-savers), but don't have the aggressive smack i like (that pro marks do have).

started with 747s (what rush fan doesn't?) and aquarian sticks (ugh--heavy and unnatural rebound--tendonitis in a box). moved on to promark 5a's and 7a's, back to the 747's, and now i'm actually playing the 707's (the simon phillips ones) when i can find them.

various mallets and tympani sticks on cymbals and for effects, etc.

i like wood tips FAR more than the nylon ones.....and i tend to pop nylon tips off in a matter of minutes and i find that i prefer maple or hickory over oak. i like a little give in my sticks. ;-)

Yeah, I have found that anything other that wood on the tip, changes the tone, the attack, the total sound you get from he kit. That is why I only use wood, american hickory, to be exact.
