Stevie Ray Vaughn and the overweight tone

it's called 13 guage strings, a nice strat, and a NICE Fender Bassman.

13 guage strings and a nice strat is a good start i'd say.

Make a channel (if you have a modeler) that raises distortion the harder you pick, slightly distorted. Neck pickups are definiitely the choice for blues (at least mine). Nice, fat, mmmmmm beefy.

"I'm gonna stick with .09's on my Strat. If I convince myself to tune down to play along, maybe .10's will be just right."

SIT (Stay In Tune) Strings makes some .95 guage strings that have noticibly better (more Stevie-like) tone than most .9's I've tried and still let you do vibrato without losing your fingertips. I use em on a strat, too. Tuning down's a pain unless you do all Stevie and Jimi stuff.
