I have an ST55. It's okay. It'll suffice for most users but last time I used it during a session the vocals sounding kinda scratchy.

I don't know if they'll take it back actually.. unfortunetly if you look at the back of your receipt you'll find a section that explains microphones aren't returnable. If you complain enough they may take it back but most likely not.. sorry man. I work there and get this question all the time. Also, it's a decent mic but lacks low end.. not very warm but if you're looking for good transient response and detail then its not too bad.

What have you found wrong with it, or are you listening to peoples opinions and not your own ears? If you really don't like the sound then try to take it back.

However as it's only about $110, You could always keep it and buy the MXL, then you have choice and you start building a mic collection.

I understand and see the point, but is the MXL V67g a substantially better product? If the answer is yes, I can bring the Sterling back and get a couple of the MXL's. It would be no real inconvenience and the prices are about the same. Why not get the better gear for the same money now? If there's going to be a "collection," I'd rather have the better gear.

My lesson is that I should have joined this forum and researched it here first!

Please share your opinions on the Sterling v. the MXL.
