Stereo pair

Well I searched around a bit but I didn't find anything that answers all of my questions:
Is it common to use a stereo pair of mics for a single vocalist in a studio recording ?
What are the benefits of such a setup ?
And how exactally would you setup the two mics ?

no its not common. But you can do some nice things if someone has a very natural loud voice. ORTF in a decent room (not even "studio" quality rooms, just somethign with character) can be the most pleasing stereo effect ever, much better than any reverbs.
