Hi - I realized that I've been recording everything into stereo tracks. What about vocals - even though they are mono - if I use an insert or bus (chorus for example, or a stereo delay) should they be recorded in stereo? Or do they come bk in stereo fr the aux bus?

Also I create midi backing trax in Jammer & it seems like I should import the midi file in mono & then set pans in the sequencer?

Sorry if this is dumb.

When you're recording a single source, such as voice or a guitar amp miced with a single mic, you should record it in mono. A stereo track will take up twice as much disk space and does not increase fidelity.

The only time you really need to record in stereo is if you're recording two sources at once, or if you're recording one source with two mics (like double micing an acoustic to add depth an space). Recording one source with one mic in stereo just duplicates the wave form to both sides, it's the same as having it in mono.

Mostly record in mono. Use your software to create a "stereo track" or "clone track," for playing with efx. By creating a clone track, you have one to experiment with, without risking loosing the original track. Sometimes the mix of the clone (with efx added) and the original track will give you the desired sound.
