Stereo/Mono Recording

I am using a M-Audio Mobile pre on my laptop wih windows XP. How in the he?? do I get it to record mono. I have tried to find the setting but no luck. I am pluging my guitar amp out into channel 1 on the mobile pre and I only get sound from one headphone.
Please Help.
