stereo/mono confusion

With Sonar 5 I hit the mono and stereo selector and recorded vocals both ways to see if theres a difference. In the track clip pane would'nt 2 waveforms be seen when doing Stereo and one waveform for mono? They both are single waveforms. And its the top wave form, when I do a guitar track the bottom waveform is effected. Not sure why this all is. Looking to see if there is a typical way I am supposed to be setting these up. Any ideas welcome. thanks
 
Well, since your microphone is mono, you should be recording to a mono track. Selecting the stereo track will probably just record to either the left or right portion of the stereo track (depending on how you have your inputs routed). Use stereo tracks if you are using two mics for a single source (like acoustic guitar or drum overheads).
 
But when I set it to mono in sonar you only get one headphone working. So I've been doing it Stereo.!?!?
