Stereo Mics and/or two mic placements

The Cowboy Junkies recorded a fantastic album with The Trinity Sessions, and the back cover notes the entire recording was done with a particular stereo mic. Does anyone remember what mic it was? (i can't find the CD cover) I am sick and tired of having to "bodyguard" two mic stands, and it seems that a single, well-made stereo mic might solve this problem (and make it a hell of a lot less bothersome!). I am looking for suggestions for an excellent entry-level stereo mic, or a cheap modification for two mics to create a stereo mic unit. In other words, if stereo mics are super-expensive, then where and at what angle do I duct-tape two given microphones? (probably SM-57's. Have extras and wouldn't need to spend $).
