Can anyone help me out on recording a good sounding 2 track stereo drum mix? Tips, tricks, secrets or advice would be great. I play many instruments fairly well and am trying to get the most out of my 4 track tascam 424 mkIII. Thanks guys

The Recorderman technique. Possibly the best 2 track stereo drum mix you can get. However it will definitely be missing some low end and I would recommend using a kick/bass drum mic if at all possible.

At the very least (especially if the song doesnt call for much toms) I would place a mic 1 foot the snare pointed towards the center in a position that the drummer wont hit it while playing. If the drummer is a heavy hitter or if it is an extremely loud snare you might want to put the mic higher up to get the balance right. Then take your other mic and put it on your kick. A dedicated kick drum mic would be best, but youve got to work with what you have.

I use this setup all the time with good results. Ill usually pan the "snare" mic 25 or 50% to the left and the the kick drum mic slightly off center to the right.
