I think horns are most effective when they're least noticed. A perfect example of that would be "My Old School" by Steely Dan.

The only song I can think of with horns that I like is the Ides of March song Vehicle. Oh wait, Sgt. Pepper has'em too. Maybe I need to rethink this. :)

I'm thinking "Under My Wheels" by Alice Cooper, and "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Other Side" by Aerosmith. And anything by Earth, Wind and Fire. Yeah, maybe horns aren't all that bad after all. :D

I really like the song for a kick off. Very nice driving beat and groove going on. I actually quite liked the horns and thought they added to the song nicely. The Harmonica solo is great. Everything was pretty sound and solid.

The only thing I found offensive were the hi-hats. They're just a touch too loud for me during the verses and chorus's. They drop or the solo and sound a much better level.

*EDIT* Really really like the tone of the bass!

Top job so far though, I really enjoyed the track, several times. Thanks for sharing! :thumbs up:

Thanks for the kudos!

The drums have an odd story. I assembled the drums tracks way back ... I'm talking maybe 3 years -- and for reasons I forget, I printed a stereo track of the drums. The problem is ... and again I can't remember why ... the original tracks got deleted. I put the project aside ... because I didn't have any inspiration as to what to do with the production ... and only recently revitalized my interest in it.

Consequently, all I was left to work with was the original stereo track that I printed. I can't fix the hi hat ... or any of the drums.

They are what they are. :)

Well ... as a general rule, you're at least wary of them. :)

Actually ... Earth, Wind and Fire was one of my favorite bands.

I actually wore out a "Best of" cassette of theirs a few years back.

I had that tape!

OTOH ... speaking of horn bands, I never developed a huge taste for Chicago. Some really good stuff, but a lot of "meh".

What a great song, lots of drive and energy. I like the horns quite a bit, the way they accent and push. The drums and vocals I like as well, particularly where you have your vocals sit in the mix, very clear and a nice timbre. The guitar sound is cool and blends well with the rest. The rhythm stumble (I call them that cuz I don't know the real term) in the chorus sounds like a glitch the first time (@ .42) but works the rest of the way. The only thing I didn't care for was the bass in the verses, it sounded a little mushy to me, I'd rather hesr some more articulation of the notes but its still a good bass line and tone, and works. Great job and very enjoyable!

Thanks so much for the warm thoughts! I'm resting my ears on this for a little bit, but there are some tweaks I'll return to make (cause that's how I roll) :) ... and I'll keep your suggestions in mind when I do.

Great tune ithas a good drive like others said. I like the horn patch it sounds pretty realistic. Too bad your drums are set as that aforementioned "stumble" in the chorus is pretty noticeable. But overall it really cooks....

Thanks bud! ... "Ve have vays of making shit work."

I'll take a look at it. I can probably smooth it out via cut and paste.
