Step Recording in Cubase SL 2.2.0 33

I can't seem to get the "step" record function enabled in Cubase SL 2.2.0 Build 33 for Mac. The help file shows it on the toolbar but I don't see it anywhere. Anyone run into this? thanks....

Opening the "key editor" allows me to see the step entry. however, I can only select MIDI channel "1". I have tried arming other midi tracks but I still can only get the key editor to come up with track 1. Any ideas?

duh

Problem resolved. Midi recieve channel was not set on sampler, score editor notes added manually default to channel 1 as well.
