when recording hard rock i know you supposed to have your amp turned lower than normal and just control levels at the board....but when the level is low and your going from a real gainy high and midrange type distortion to a heavy booming distortion how do you preserve that "step-on" effect that you get when you turned the heavy distortion on if you have the levels low
