Anyone have any pros/cons for studding walls with wood vs using steel studs?

Hey there, hello from Madison, WI :)

Steel studs don't transfer vibrations as well as wood because they're less rigid. Therefore you get better transmission loss between walls, which is what you're after.

Last time I checked they're more expensive than wood, so it's a matter of balancing what you can afford with how much isolation you need.

You have to check with local codes. My last studio had to have steel studs because of building code.

We're both in the same town, and you can use wood studs here.

Right on! Thanks guys.

Sonic Clang - I've been watching your studio construction videos and want to say "thanks" - they're educational AND entertaining! :) I totally had no idea you lived in Mad town. I moved here about 9 years ago and love it!

I checked out a few sites and will probably go with the steel dspite the cost.

Thanks again!

Well, technically I'm in Verona, but same difference. My parents technically live in Madison, but it used to be Verona. Anyway, I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos so far. Only one or two episodes left, then it's done.
