One of the percs from contracting out at a music venue is the ocasional freebie from the industry reps that swarm the place every year. Last year D'Addario supplied cases and cases of XL guitar and bass strings to the bands of two large events, and I found the last case yesterday...Full of XL SuperBright Steel medium light guage (.045) roundwound bass strings and XL nickel plated super light (.009) electric guitar strings...I won't be buying guitar strings for a while...

...My only concern is how the steel bass strings will affect the nickel alloy frets on my bass...I'd heard somewhere that plain steel strings can notch frets. I've only ever used nickel-plated steel bass strings, and I have a fairly heavy fretting technique...How long til the refret?

Same as normal. Don't worry about it, as normal electric guitar strings are always harder than the frets. This shouldn't change anything.
