Where is this stuff available? I've googled and have'nt found anything but round grills. I'm looking for some black mesh to use on some small stage monitors.

Thanks. That got me going. I've worked with expanded metal and should have thought of that. I should have been searching for perforated metal...........still have'nt found a retailer though.

thanks for searching true. i did'nt find any retailers of perforated metal/steel in your search. :(

i'll keep looking though. sometimes these things can take a while. finding raw materials in small quantities can be a pain in the ass.

I bought some expanded steel from ACE hardware.
I used it for stage monitors.
It's real tough stuff. You won't have to worry about the speakers getting damaged.
I used some heavy duty black speaker cloth from Parts Express underneith the grill to keep small particles/liquids/fingers out.

get a Business to Business Yellow pages and look under "Metal Supply". You will either have to buy a whole 4x8 sheet or pay for cutting. Most metal supply houses have the ability to cut the piece you need. There might be some sort of minimum order as they usually deal wholesale.

Travis, you may want to call one of these places and ask them about what you are looking for. If they do not carry it, they may still be able to point you in the right direction. The first link for example even has a number when you scroll down.

You may find it hard to find, just as the re-coning issue. I don't think they want anyone DIY'ing. Hey Travis, have you thought to pm Barefootsounds? I bet he could send you in the right direction for that mesh wire.

http://www.infolink.com.au/Companies/Melwire I got this link off of

this link...http://206gti.net/diy-meshgrill/ where a guy in australia did car speakers. So that company does have mesh wire...don't know if it is black. You obviously want a co here though. :D

That would probably be the logical thing to do would'nt it? :D I'm holding off on the diy speaker thing until I try some in-ear buds for monitoring. Thanks for putting in the effort True.

You are welkom Travis...good luck. :)

Check with a local metal fabrication shop, or maybe a machine shop. Most of them have expanded metal in stock and can cut it to whatever size you need. Get them to clean and paint it too, the stuff is usualy oily and a real pain to paint.

Just go to your nearest metal salvage yard. They'll likely have a good selection.

maybe i can help you

The black mesh?if it made of polyester or nylon?die cut the mesh with sticker on back for speaker? Used in call phones and hearing aids to prevent dust, water and increase acoustic fidelity
if it is right , contact me :MSN dulin00@hotmail.com
