Weird as usual but pretty damn cool man.LOL.You should try your hand at creating tunes for the Video Game Industry.A lot of your stuff leans that way IMHO.

Doctor,

This one has me listening 10 times and more.....Quite awesome esp considering that quantizing was not utilized......simply an awesome display of solid sonoroties, texture, grooves and polyrythmns....... my favs being the 16th followed by the dotted 8th & the quarter note triplets thruout 1:05 thru 1:58.......yummy!

Truth be told......Did you quantize ANY of it? Either way, nice thematic and rhythmic developement!

Peace brother,
Ralph

Homer voice

"Mmmmm.... weird"

I liked the part at 0:48 where Sonic finds the 10x gold rings and if you double jump twice on top of the slot machines and then run down the ramp of the pirate ship you find the extra life.

Way ta go Doc.

Thanks, bro!

No- I blend straight sequenced (unquantized) step recorded tracks with tracks that I record at half speed with the keyboard controller. That way I only have to ajdust pitch clams. :)

Kramer & Khomp: thanks fer checkin' it out. I was never much of a gamer...
Just ask Slack & Emeric. They've got the .jpegs to prove it!

cool...airy...twisted...fresh...regal. Kind of like biting into a york peppermint patty on salvia divinorum.

Dr. Who keeps coming to mind. And Alice in Wonderland. I like this A LOT!!! Doc you are THE MAN!

If you put "stay away" in the subject line and you got me hooked - I'm checkin' it out. (good marketing!) To be honest I probably wouldn't have checked this out but I'm glad I did - nice compostion! And a big advantage with synths is that awesome tonal range - that's real refreshing to my ears since I tend to get my shit stuck between high and low mids.

I think flat-9 said it best:

(No offense here but if I ever had a thought like that I think my brain would explode.)

Nice work, man - cool talent - sharp creativity - glad I checked it out!

the piano patch (i'm assuming it isn't a real piano) sounds really good.......

sounds like a stream of conscienceness composition.......i could see this being played in the weird funhouse part of an amusement park:D

Very cool stuff! I think I'll need to listen to it a few times to catch all those rhythm and meter changes. Nice use of different pads to create a sound montage.

A few of the pads sounded like they had just a tad of distortion on my end (I'm thinking that real deep bass sound that comes in about the 1:20 mark or so) ... I like the gutteral sound of the low register, but on my cheap speakers it is slightly distorting.

Very cool piece of music. I'll need to listen to this a few times, but on first listening it is definitely an interesting piece.

:D

rats: yes Alice in Wonderland stuck inside of WATYF's avatar!!

MC Gitarz: I wasn't pulling an FT marketing squeeze. I just thought this was so similar to a dozen other songs I've posted here that I ought to disclaim the content for those that can't get into this "genre".

powderfinger: real piano-- HA! but thanks oh so much for backing up my belief that as long a patch sounds good and remains useful it remains useful. It's an 8-year old Canvas Module.

>A few of the pads sounded like they had just a tad of distortion on my end: boydrj

boydrj: yeah- it broke up pretty badly as well on my ghetto setup at work. You may have to apply a 240Hz cut since my mastering obviously isn't cutting it...

Thanks for checking it out. :)

Oh yeah- it pretty much stays in 5/4 the whole time, at least that's how it's notated in CW.

I dig drstrawl synth tunes soo here we go...

A little more thematic than some of your other stuff I have. Nice tones. I liked the organ style patches although the mix got a little bass heavy at times.

Lot's of great playing in there. I really liked the music box stuff at the beginning and end and other parts I can't describe.

Cool stuff

I consider myself pretty avant garde (I've been listening to Ween since Pure Guava, and I own the only Ethyl Meatplow album ever released, for God's sake), but this is a little much for me. I like a cohesive melody and structure. This is a bit too dissonant and chaotic for me.

Having said that. It's mixed well. And it's different. Different is good. (Who said that? Taco Bell?)

The title of the the post was intriuging and I was glad I listened to it.

Man! That brought back a lot of wonderful memories of Zappa when I heard that piece. There was a track from the Uncle meat double album done back arround 1969 that had a tune called "Zolar Czakl". I wonder if he was an influence for you?

Zappa didn't have as many sounds at his disposal as you do but the mood of your's and his stuff is un-canilly similar!

Very nice track.

Dude this is cool. If I didn't have like 30 projects to catch up on, I'd spend an afternoon weaving whacky vocals into this. Very entertaining music.

Love the release of the tension around the 2:00 mark. Opens up nicely.

For some reason I imagined getting into an elevator in New York and having this suddenly come on for the ride up. I believe it would work very nicely on a Merry-go-round too. :)

Cool man! Creative.

Some of the lows ran a little hot on my monitors, and I think a bit more spread would be nice. That's about it from me. Cool.

Brother_ I ESPECIALLY wanna hear from the crowd that thinks I've gone off the deep end.

Thanks for your input. Nuff said!

I think Taco Bell would treat me like Pizza Hut treated Ween.

:D

Or a trip to the center of the Earth or to the center of your MIND!!

I can't deny my NYC roots.

I grew up racing elevators in a 14 story building.

Already noted. I think i need to tame that low end a just a tad at least for the mp3 release.

Yeah boyyyy!

You're into the mind of the DOCTOR!!!
Part Chamber, part Operatic, part symphonic and part Euro-influenced rock/jazz with a lil bit of a sac-sample thrown in the mix.

Doc, I re-recorded this on C/D to see what certain parts would sound like with a "Cathedral Verb" effect applied to it.
Wide and airy!

Under the influence of liquid sensation, I them attempted to apply
a syncopated rhythm to this piece in 3/4,4/4 5/6 & 2/3 and the finally in 2/4! Got some wild reaction.

This joint reminds me of a Bartok scale esperiment I undertook in college where we were told to variate the progressions and some up with something different. It was fun, just like this piece was!

Cool tunage, Doc. Never did get a 5 feel from it - there seemed to be some definite 4/4 sections, though.

Lines seemed a bit fumbly sometimes - but you may have been goig for a Monk anti-slick vibe. Some sounds had a definite GM aura, too. I wasn't as taken with the piano sound as powderfinger was, either.

But these are minor points - a fun listen, held my interest. My 2-yr-old graanddaughter even tried to dance to it, but got confused - so I picked her up and we finished the dance together.

And how many other people can say they danced to a Doc Stawl tune???:D
