static electricity?

Hi, all. I recently moved my studio from a hardwood floor bedroom to a (farily thick) carpeted basement and I'm experiencing all sorts of weirdness. I don't know if my soundcard (Wami Rack 24) is dying or if it's possible that the static electricity -- which is about enough to bounce you off the wall when you touch a door knob  -- could be causing these issues?

Can anyone out there tell me if it's even possible that the static electricity could be the problem (and if so, how to lessen it) or if it's just wishful thinking and the real problem may be my card... Any input is welcome. Thanks!

Static charge (and DIScharge) can screw with digital signals pretty badly.

Humidifier? Don't overdo it, but it's a good thing.

Static Guard (the spray) once a week or so on the carpeting. WARNING: The stuff is flammable like petrol. Spray a bit of Febreeze or something first to temporarily arrest any discharge. I've seen the stuff go POOF on more that one occasion due to static discharge while being sprayed.

Oh! Grounding straps too!

MLS--

I started getting shocked through my MDR7506s whenever I would walk across my carpet with them on...it was quite scary at first.

I agree with the humidifier. I use one during the cold/dry winter months here in the northeast and it helps tremendously.

I also have used the ‘Static Guard on the carpet’ trick. The stuff stinks something fierce, and in a small room was almost intolerable. I found the humidifier worked just fine on its own.

I tried to make sure I got one that was rated for the size of my room.

I’m thinking about getting something to measure the humidity in the room.

Anyone have any ideas about the ‘proper’ humidity level for a studio with electronic equipment as well as wooden instruments and drumheads?

Half and half downy and water in a spray bottle is a little cheaper then the static guard and it isn't flammable.

Since you live in cold country the heat is on. No Humidity.
As mentioned you should spray the rug. Dont wear tennis shoes. Wear thin leather soled shoes like sandals or Moccasins. Or thin socks or go barefoot.
If its that bad you may want to get a Static eliminator. The cheapest one I know of is the SIMCO AEROSTAT #A200.
You can find it here. About $50.00

You could also lay down some plastic runners in your walking area.
Yes the static could be the problem with the soundcard if its intense enough.
