PC recording -

recording two guitars
two midline (audtech) mics
Dman 2044 sound card.
Two different and good preamps.
CakewalkPA9 rec/editing prgm.
HP computer
Guit amp1- Marshall
Guit amp2- ampeg/crate
Good monitors and audio setup -

Problem -
I am hearing static in the recording - which I am supposing is from
the qi inputs from the Dman - b.c I was troubleshooting with preamps, mics, distortions, cords, guitars, monitors, different headphones and wiring...
but none of them seemed to be the cause---
the only cause I can suppose is the qi inputs and the inputs from the mics-

is there something I can do to rectify this -
I had a tuner cleaner which I have used on my old (vintage) pioneer tube receivers -
or is there something I can buy or do SPECIFICALLy for this problem -
anyone else have this at all---

I am almost positive it is from the Dman qi inputs.

Thank-you! anyone!

peace

It could be be issues arising from bad clocking... do you have more than one source clocking the digital signal?

I am not at my studio computer right now, but what should I look for in that case, so I can look into that when I get off work (and yep- no internet at home).

I am gonna say no, but I am just assuming since I am not at my computer.

The static is sometimes there when I record, and other times it is not - but it is to the point now, where I am really annoyed with the little bit of noise I hear (static/cracks) and I want to get rid of it without going in and rubbing the track and editing/ filtering it out.

a big saving of time for me.

thanks-

At any one time, only one clock source can act as the master clock for a digital system. Many times, clocking is derived from the digital audio signal itself, but if you've inadvertently looped a digital signal back into the signal flow (via incorrect settings in your s/c's signal routing), you could end up with clock conflicts causing pops/ticks. If it truly is static though, it's not likely clock-related...

I used two different mics and two different guitars, two different preamps and plugged the inputs into different qi ins on the Dman each time hearing the same static.

---this static that i hear does not happen all the time (ie - i recorded about a month ago, and did not hear it)
other times- it is present.

I am not doing anything different that what I have done in the past, so that was why I was assuming that clocking was not the problem, but then again, I have never encountered that problem before-
so i guess my next question would be --perchance it is the clocking- where do i need to troubleshoot from in order to rectify it.

Like i said i am a bit at a loss here b.c I am pretty sure that I have not changed anything on my sound card setting-wise that would cause problems with the signals - but then again - it is a computer and they have minds of their own - esp with all the mess I have on mine at this time.

Thanks ---for the help---
Im really anxious to get off work here and see if that is the problem - just wondering how to troubleshoot it now with the Dman and ckw.

peace!

tried it

hey ---thanks for the help bluebearsound -
but after playing around with my computer a while- i came to the conclusion that i do not think it is the clocking that is causing the static/cracking

I am now pondering if it is the sc (Dman 2044 inputs)
or some kind of db overload (although nothing is clipping when i record) and both the POD and the audiobuddy and the tube preamp (none of which) clip!

then if that was not annoying enough -
I converted the songs to wav out of cakewalk pa9 -
and they played fine and dandy on my computer -
but when transferred to cd (burned) they played much slower than the recordings and what i heard on the player.

HP system + burner
POD (preamp)
audiobuddy (preamp)
tube (preamp)
ckw PA9 and sonar (both of which had static in the tracks)
Dman 2044 (sc)
audtech (mid grade mics)

(small studio just for idea purposes) - but again - these problems have never occurred before - so I am at a loss--
any help is - once again - greatly appreciated.

thanks anyone
peace
