So, I am pretty excited.
I bought some gear from Jim Lad... AKG Perception 200, and the M-Audio Keyrig he had posted here. Plus I jumped my happy ass onto MF and ordered a metal pop filter to place in front of the condensers when in use. I snagged a set of Audio Technica cans while I was at it. Not preferable to monitors, but all I could throw the cabbage down for. Supposed to be designed for home studio reference and mixing. We'll see on that one (because if nothing else, I want some cans to cut down on the noise of listening to my music, playing games etc.). I'll snag some monitors when my tax return hits. Since the project my friends and I are doing is a very fluid sort of thing, a friend of mine who is a hobbyist said he'd wire me up a spare guitar body/neck combo he has sitting around for $75-100. I could use a couple more good mic cables, a couple good instrument cables, and perhaps a boom stand, or a bolt on boom for my straight stand.

Entirely minimalistic, my room sucks, but it's start! At any rate the set up will be light years ahead of what I am working with now. Perhaps in a couple months down the road, I can pick up a basic bass for some simple song writing... or I get really familiar with the virtual instruments packed into Garage Band. Lol.

Just thought I would try and spread a little enthusiasm... and maybe infect some other folk. :D

Keep your eyeballs open all the time, I look for clearance items, frequently the new item that replaces it is of minimal difference, and you can save a ton. I got Audio Technica studio cans for something like 45 bucks that way, mics also.

As for a basic bass, check out Rockbass by Warwick, you can get some amazing deals on Ebay and they are great instruments. I know the name's stupid, but they really are incredible for the price. I'd definitely keep an eye out for a Corvette Standard. Forget the Streamer, it's pretty, for sound the Vette has it dead to rights. 2 jazz pups and active preamp. I got one with a gig bag for 260 plus shipping, still well under 300. Never played. You can get those kind of deals all the time.

Warwick... last time I noodled on a Warwick it was one of the fret-less necks, natural finished body, and I could swear its pickups were active. It was like an $800 one at GC. Nice though.
I'm slowly working at piecing together this project studio, as best I can when and where I can. I'm not very great at guitar or bass, but I know enough to where I could scratch write bits, and have friends who are more skilled at strings clean it up. Lol. Getting my hands on a Midi/USB controller was a big deal though.
