To start out i was thinking it would be a good idea to just get one great preamps and compressor, and add to it in the future. For a neutral, multipurpose setup i was thinking this.

I'd get an RNP, and an RNC.

it would go into a delta 44 though so i'd be limited to 4 inputs. But down the road i could get a DMP3, a VTB-1, or maybe on of those sytek preamps.

Also would it be a good idea go spring for the delta 66 with the SPDF inputs? That way i could add a preamp with an SPDF output and have more than 4 inputs? I was just thinking, cause i will want to record some simple drums at one point. And i was thinking of getting a pair of Marshal MXl 603's for over heads (as well as accoustic guitar and female vocals and other stuff), i could rent a shure beta 52 for kick drum, and use my sm58, or buy a sm57 for the snare, and i thought it would be nice to stick a LD condensor out front. But i wouldn't be able to fit that in due to my limited 4 inputs that i would have on the delta 44. But if i got a 66 i could add another preamp with SPDF, is this worth it?

Would you recomend a different flavor of preamp? I'd like it to be two channels.

If you're planning on upgrading, I'd say start out with a mixer and something like a delta 1010. Then you've got tons of preamps to play with until you save up for a main preamp for vocals and such.

I don't know what your price range is, though.

well the reason i was going to bypass the mixer is because i don't need a ton of mediocre preamps.
I'll mainly be using only 1-2 inputs at a time. So for me 2 really good channels is best, and then i can add in the future.

Price range? it's flexible but not huge...
