Hey everyone, DMagik here.

Extremely new to producing and basically i'm just experimenting with FL9. Me and a few buddies have started to write verses and what not over the stuff i've made.

Reason why I'm here. My productions are still extremely amateur. Basically because all i have is a laptop and a few programs. I want to begin to build a small but productive little studio in my basement. Lemme give you a little information. I'm a poor college student and money comes by every once in a while, so when it comes to making purchases, I have to be frugal.

I need to know what equipment i need, I know I need a mic, I wanna get a MIDI drum pad... But as far as mixers and wires/cables and all that goes, I'm at a complete loss as to where to start, or what most of it even does. I have a lot of question and I hope these forums could help me out.

Thanks for your reply!

Get yourself an audio interface with 1 or 2 inputs and MIDI in/out and leave out the mixer. Because your basically using software you wont need to many inputs. I would suggest some decent monitors. KRK Rokit 5's are nice for the money. If not to serious then just get some decent headphones. Then you can get yourself a decent condensor/dynamic mic and your pretty much all set. You can eventually get a Mic Preamp. But if money is tight save that for later.

And honestly, if your using FL then I would lean away from a drum pad and pick up a MIDI keyboard. Your going to use that more then a drum pad.

Thanks man, could you possibly link me to a few good Audio interfaces that are somewhat cheap? :]

Well Ill put a link to the only cheaper one ive used.

I thought it was pretty good for the price and did justice when only recording a couple tracks at once.

Take a look through that website and see what looks good to you.

There are tons of different ones so what I suggest is looking around and reading as much as you can.

http://tweakheadz.com/ Go here and read about as much as you can. This will also give you some ideas for gear to so check it out.
