hello people,

ive had many songs and ideas written down for a while but have never recorded them however i think now is a good time.

my basic approach is a raw/lo-fi type sound, kind of what you would hear on John Frusciantes "To Record Only Water For Ten Days".

Equipment, software, tips, advice, etc., whatever, will really help me out.

Super easy solution would be getting a handheld recorder like Zoom H2/H4 or something similar.

Alternative option is getting a interface and microphone(s) and record to Reaper for example.


Tell us little about what you want to record, do you want to be able to record all these things at once, what's your budget... then we will able to help you even better.
 
Hi,

I recommend investing in software like pro-tools and logic and getting a audio interface like a fireface but it really depends on your budget. Dont confuse raw/lo-fi sound with an easy sound to get. It still takes a good deal of knowledge in terms of mic placement, gain-staging, mixing techniques, to pull of a nice lo-fi/raw sound compared to a lo-fi recording that just sounds like garbage. Grab a couple of sm57's if you dont have them already
 
Read the sticky threads up top and tell us your budget and what equipment you actually have now, including your computer specs and if you can work with computer recording or would prefer a standalone machine and why.

All that and you might get some useful information.
 
thanks for the replies.

right now i dont have any recording equipment apart from my logitech g35 mic (which is for gaming) and im using audacity, so right now im pretty much square one. my budget isnt too tight but i wouldnt want to go for anything that is too complex or fancy, just something that i can multitrack on and eq with.
i would like to follow the same sound as the previous album mentioned with synths, guitars, voice, drums, samples, piano.
hope i got the important points down. if i can describe it a bit more, let me know.
