Starting New

Hi. I am wanting to purchase equipment for my husband. He is an awesome singer and I want him to be able to record and make his own cd's at home. I just bought a new house and I have and extra room now I need the equipment. So my concern or problem is I have no idea where to start...HELP ...WHERE DO I START? THANKS
