Starting from scratch. Build me a studio for five grand.

I have five grand. What can I do? What could YOU do?

This is a game, a test, a CHALLENGE.

I can play all my own instruments, and am open to software, including Fruity Loops, etc. I use it all the time.

So, build me a studio. You have five grand.

Winner gets a case of beer if you're brave enough to supply an address (or secret dropoff spot).

Are we building this studio in an existing space or will the 5k be for ground up construction as well?
 
Why don't you just do a search for the other 2 thousand "I have 5 grand build me a studio" threads that are out there. Really I'm not trying to be a smartass but this question seems to be asked on a daily basis around here. Also you really need to be really specific on what you want. 5 thousand honestly isn't much and you may need that for the essential things you'll need to do your style of music. For example I record mostly hard rock and metal so I need lots of mics and channels. And that costs a lot of money. Hell my mics alone probably run close to 5 grand. Anyway do some searching and then come back with more specifics.
 
A TASCAM 4 track, a Nady Star Power, Sony MD150 phones, and some cables, a little under $200.

$4800 for eight hours of my time to come set it up and do your first recording.
 
Are you talking a gear list or construction of the physical space + acoustic treatment? or both?

I play mostly acoustic, metal, punk, and country.

Well, you'll need a computer. I advise you build one...

Wow...five grand doesn't go very far these days. You'd still need cables, whatever software you wanted, guitar mics, drum mics....etc. But the setup above is fairly respectable.
 
Give me the five grand and you're welcome to use my studio as much as you like.

No, you can live near the studio not on my property, and give me the 5 grand and use the studio LMAO.
