ok so first of all i only record hiphop vocals...i think i have the basic chain already (equpitment in signature) ...now i needa start on my rack...i dont like doing things on my software because i just think its more intuitive to use your hands....what would you guys recommend i start with? equalizer? compressor? where do i start my research?

also i dont have much experiance in equalizing or compression..i know the basics...but i wouldnt be able to do a very good job with my current knowlege..so does anybody have any suggestions on books or texts i should read?...keep in mind that right now im only focusing on hiphop...

thanks alot guys

Assuming you've only got a budget of around 500 bucks (looking at your gear)...

You could try uprgrading your pre with a pre that has compression and eq built in...Look at the MAudio Tampa, the Mindpring Envoice Mk2, Joe Meek oneQ and the Toft EC1

For a stand alone compressor look at the DBX 160 and the FMR RNC, and for EQ you could look at the Presonus EQ3B... Just some ideas...

i second the RNC . get your room padded out and set up well and pick up some good monitors. allow your self to make some mistakes and learn from them.

A third on the RNC and a second on the Tampa. :D

Got lotsa links if you want em ...just pm me...

Do you work for FMR??Just curious.
hell I got accused of working for DAV, so no offense..but you reccomend them like every other post. By God, they need people in the trenches! Fight the good fight !

And you manipulate your computer how....mental telepathy? :p

Seriously, I don't think you should dismiss plug-ins based on such a silly premise. If you are very budget minded, you'll probably get better results that way anyway.

better monitors? wats wrong with these..these where very well recomended when i bought them...and i like them..so i dunno...i dont really wanna upgrade the pre...i really like it..and i dont think itll be as good with the other choices..but i dunno..

imma check out the other things you told me..thanks guys

btw..is the RNC rack mountable?..it would be nice to have everything on a single rack..its not THAT important..but just wondering

They make a rack mount chassis for the RNC, but IIRC the mount is for two RNCs.

thanks great site..doin a lot of reading..

but so can i rack mount these and where can i get the chassis
