Hey, i have a desk i just bought, and i was thinking about adding an extra shelf for the computer monitor and speakers so i have more room on the main desk in between the two shelves i would like ot put some rack space, maybe 4 rack spaces. i was wondering what the standard measurements are for most rack units. like if i were to buy 4 pieces of wood, what would the measurements have to be. thanks

It's not a good idea to have your computer monitor up high from an ergonomic standpoint.

It's also not a good idea to have flat reflective surfaces directly between your audio monitors from an acoustic standpoint.

Standard rack gear width is 19", 1.75" high per space.

when you say a reflective flat surface between my monitors, do you mean the computer monitor?

Yes, or anyhting else with hard flat surfaces.

The best thing to do is keep your computer monitor(s) down low, and angled upward. You can see some desks with this design here.

19" is the overall maximum width but the actual screw holes can be a little varied. I made a rack and used 18 1/2" from center to center for the rack holes and it worked pretty well.
