ST55 vs NT1a

So I'm borrowing an ST55 from a friend who's looking to sell it to me for 150. I already have two NT1a's that I'm very satisfied with and I feel like I don't really need another mediocre microphone, and the only gap I need to fill microphone wise is a good vocal mic. I like the NT1a on vocals, but sometimes it's just a little bit lacking for what I want.

I'm wondering if anyone recommends I keep the ST55 as a compliment to the NT1a, or if they're just too similarly mediocre to make it worth while. I'm recording female jazz vocals with it tonight (I might even set both mics up side by side so I can A/B them, so I'll be able to make some of my own judgements, but I'm curious what you guys think.

Will it be a good addition or will it just be 150 dollars of something I already have two of?

If you are like me you can never have enough mics, I have NT1's NT2's MXL's AKG's, Sennheisers, Audio Technica's, Shure's, the list goes on, some cheap some expensive, I find that even the cheap mics have a different sound so I don't mind owning a few cheaper mics for different applications.

I think $150 may be a bit high as I did a search and found them on special for $199. See if you can talk him down a bit to say $100 to $120.

To move up in microphones you get a lot of selection under $400, then you take a big jump into the $800 to whatever mics. However microphones are like monitors, 1 persons likes are another's dislikes.

Cheers

Alan.

I have an ST55... It's all right, I don't have too much experience with the NT1A but if you feel they are comparable and you all ready have two NT1A's then if I were you I would definitely save up for something if not more expensive but a little different... but as I said I have little experience with the NT1A so I can't offer a direct comparison.

Thanks guys, and sorry for that epic parenthesis fail! I didn't get to use it last night, recording time went over on the guitars, but I will be tonight so I'll make the judgement call of if it's a better vocal mic or not.
