I love it! Post-modern digital! Let's have a where's the Fostex competition. When I get ahold of my daughter's digi-cam I'll see about posting my workspace...

By the way, I posted this on another forum, but I've just completed a mini-sound booth. It's a rectangle cage made of 1 1/2"PVC pipe, covered in mover's furniture blankets. It's not designed to be soundproof, but it does deaden more subtle noises along with wierd reflections. The dimensions are about 6.5 feet tall, 5 feet long and 4 feet wide. So it'll hold two people. Because some of my stuff is straight voice, with quiet music beds, I really wanted to go for NO background noise.

Check out Johnny Cash's latest... On the back cover of the CD, there's a picture of a microphone and a chair surrounded by hanging Persian rugs... I believe it's the producer/engineer's living room where the recording was made!

love the look

Hey those blankets are great, i have them behind the drums in my studio, drums are in the corner and this really helps with feedback when we jam live and with overall sound of the drums when i record them. Got them at an auction for $10.00.

Ill have to send in a pic of my work space also, kind of fun......

Nice! Cool idea - it'll be interesting to see where everone works. Will be tough to spot those MR-8's though, what with the soothing earth tone color scheme...

Garry - any complaints from the neighbors when they hear nothing but cymbals?

mrx - well, the floor is sound proofed, we have a pub one side and an empty house the other. We can get away with it until the house gets let.

Need to use the rehearsal studio for the full drum set though:D :D

It's a strange situation - I played with one guy who had a house on 5 acres and always had the cops there. The same band would rehearse in another guy's tiny house in a residential neighborhood with a bigger PA and drums, and never have a problem.

The liner notes say it was recorded at Cash Cabin Studio,Nashville. I suspect it's Johnny Cash's place. Great album, BTW, the man is a treasure.

ROLF!

P.S.- my wife thinks the MR8 is damn sexy in fire engine red.

Is the Fostex the little blue box, on stand, just below & behind the overhead mic?

Is that an MR8, or maybe a VF08 or VF80? [Guessing]

I thought the MR8 just came in RED. [Hmmm?]

Cool pic. Looks like many-a-home-recording studio I've been in, or have seen.

Reel - yes, it's a VF80. Hiding away, probably in embarrassment at the noises we make it record.

It might look like a home rec studio, but it's meant to be our living room!!:D

I can just imagine when guests come over... "Oh sit here, have some cheddar and crackers... Can I get you a beer? Also, would you mind doing some back-up vocals?"

Too true Bill, too true. Once intoxication reaches a level that precludes walking - and hence escape - the mic's come out...

ROTF!

I onced hung out with/roadied for a husband and wife band. Almost every room, and everything in those rooms was recording/band eqipment. To be honest, it was always alot of fun hanging out there, music was going on almost 24 hours a day. Of course, that was before kids, (day) jobs and responsibilities (shudder) walked into our respective lives. I have very fond memories of laying face up on the floor, next to the dog, unable to move a whole lot, listening to them rehearse.
What was weird was, as the band practiced, if you walked outside, the house was so soundproofed, it was like you just walked into another reality. One that was much too quiet. Soooooo, one usually scurried back into the house, and all that sound. Aint music fun!

can anyone give me a walk through of posting a few pics... I've got 'em.

just post reply, and down at the bottom it has button for Browse. This is in the section called Attach File. It brings up a window that you browse your local hard drive.

I usually post small .jpg's since it's a lot smaller, only 10% of the size of a bitmap, and no one needs that quality on the web. It will be a lot faster to load when someone looks at the message.

Is that what you meant? Not sure.

OK, if this works, here's a shot of my "studio". Note the mover's blanket. That's a "wall" of my new sound booth... Also, the mic near the keyboard (microKorg) is what I use for vocoding. If my preamp hadn't just died, it'd be in the picture too. My SPB1's are in glass jars, inside the desk where the VF80 sits.
