Mixing and Mastering.
Ok, can anyone tell me which sample sounds better here.
Also there is one difference between the two which might be obvious or not to some.

"Sample 1"
"Sample 2"
at link at bottom.
Good luck!

Hi

The kick drum is compressed in sample 2. It sounds better with the compression but I can not tell you if it's the best setting because I don't use real drums in my recordings.

/Jack Real.

Cheers Jack. Yeah i think sample 2 sounds better also. Sample two was compressed with settings of around 5ms attack, 100ms release, 4:1. I noticed that the compression made the kick sound more punchy, attacky. Im sure this is because the compressor (with gain make-up) brought the first part of the (+) wave up to the same level as the second part of the (+) wave so it had more energy in the same amount of time.
I always heard that compression could make drums sound more attacky, but i never really could understand how or why. Now i think im getting there.

Yeah, it isn't that hard to understand really.

Basicly compressor reduces volume for a certain time. When you use a compressor for eg a kick drum with settings above, what does it do? It makes the first 5ms of the attack louder than the 100ms after that. So you create "false dynamic" there. Makes things have more attack/punch.

Cool kainz, im diggin this.
You can listen to some of my recordings at the link at the bottom. Its kinda weirs how my mixes sound kinda almost semi pro and i just yesterday found out how to compress drums to change their sound rather than just control their levels!!! :D: :D: :D: :D:
