splicing tracks together

Sorry for this noobish question, but I cannot seem to get CEP to do what I want. Let's say I record a guitar track (track 1,) but make some mistakes at the end of the recording. So, I create another track (track 2,) to replace the end of the first track. Now I have 2 tracks that I want to "splice" together into 1 track. I assume you just click and drag the second onto the end of the first, but how can I get both tracks in the "Edit Waveform view" so I can do this?
 
not quite that simple. Don't you have a manual?

What you need to do is...say you have your 2 guitar tracks in track 1 & 2.....where you wanna make the splice you cut BOTH tracks. Delete out the parts of the waveforms you dont want. Then using the Ctrl key select both waveforms on track 1 & 2.

At the top in the drop down menu there's a "mix/merge selected tracks to mono (if your guitar ir recorded in mono). This will merge both parts and bring them up in the wave editor. From there select "insert in multitrack" BINGO!

if you dont wanna slice them you can use the volume envelopes to close one wav and open the other...like a crossfade even and then repeat the merge part.

In mutitrack view, I'd first make a cut (sorry for the old "tape" lingo) using the "split" function, and then push the cut piece I don't currently want to use off to the right.

I do the same thing with the other track.

I make certain there is enough room for the two pieces on one track line and click and drag the second piece to join up with the first. I listen, I say "okay!" to myself, and then delete the other pieces I don't need. Then I save the waveform to a doc file in case a "bad thing" happens to prevent the loss of the work.

The more I play with this system, which is only occaisionaly since a lot of voice-over is still cast at someone's studio, the more I discover that there are SEVERAL ways to do most things in wave editing programs. The way I do things is based on how I learned, on 1/4 inch tape at radio stations. :)
 
Okay, I think I've got it now. I did try to use "mix" previously, but it always converted it to stereo. By changing it to mono, it does what I want it to. Thanks for your help.
 
Under Options|Settings...|Multitrack you can decide what format you want the mixdown to be.
