I thought I commented on this the other day but apparently not!

Anyway, just listening to the 2nd mix and it's sounds much better to me although I really like the song and the 1st mix sounded pretty good as it was. This mix seems to gel a hell of a lot more. Love the vocals, you have a very unique voice. Great harmonies.

Like Manslick RE: the guitar riff, I can't help wanting to start singing 'Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out' every time I hear it. It shows a great influence, fits the song really well and has a great tone to it.

Listened thru the big speakers. The snare could come up quite a bit and it seems a bit off to the left.

The bass and the kick are locked in very nicely. The drumming well, hell it's Greg. I really liked the first time he went to the ride and how it clicked in with the staccato vocals right there. Like a plan that came together.

Also the low harmonies later on are sa-weeet. There is some interesting voicing too in the Spider Man repeats. Sounds complex.

Sticks in the head.

Greg hasn't been around in a couple days. I hope he checks back before this thread slips off the bottom of the page.
 
I listened to this when you first posted it, but never got around to posting. I just had another listen. It's freaking great. Loads of energy and I love Spiderman as well. Awesome tune.
 
very well done. Listening to mix 2. Could use a little more clarity in the vocals. Not louder, but maybe make some room for them freq wise by nothing out some freq in the other instruments perhaps? There is a bass note that has a lot of energy to it. A 'D" note perhaps. I would notch that out a bit. Great job for sure. 60's ish

got a cool classic 60's kind of pop vibe....
dig the performances....
and the harmonies.

mix issues:
the vox are too low in the mix.
snare sounds boxy....
bass is pretty indistinct, it needs some work to get it to lay flat (frequency wise) and bring the level up.
i hear some 'splat' on the overheads
 
Hey elton and GONZO, thanks for checking in.

I did a couple of things. I tried to de-tangle the overheads from the vocal. I gave the OH's a cut somewhere between 5 and 6K and I gave the lead vocal a boost at about the same spot. I think the vocal sits above things a little better now.

I tried to de-mud the bass a little bit and gave it a little boost around 2K. I was trying to give a little more definition to it. I got it sounding a little better, or at least I talked myself into it.

I like the snare sound, boxy or not. So I think I'm going to leave that where it is.

OK here is mix #3. Not a ton different from 2. But the lead vocal and (hopefully) the bass should be clearer.

Wow. Those toms are big! Sounds cool though.

I thought the last mix was good enough, but I'm glad I checked back as I like this one much better.
 
Lead vocal levels are almost there - I would bring them up maybe 2dB or so. The BG vox are almost as loud as the lead, it sounds. Drums sound better on this mix than the first.
Pretty catchy tune! Guitars and bass sound good too. You nailed the sound of this style!
 
Sounds pretty good Trip. I like how you left the drums seemingly pretty raw and the toms sound better. I find the levels of everything to be just about right. Bass, vocals, guits, all good. The drums get a little buried at times, but it works with the garage-pop style of the song. My only other suggestion with the drums would be to change the tom panning. It seems that you left the overheads in "drummer's perspective", which is fine, I like it that way, but you put the individual tom tracks in "audience perspective". It's a noticeable mismatch, to me anyway.
 
heat - thanks for checking again. all I did on the vocal was to make a mid-sized cut in the overheads between 5-6K and a mid-sized boost in the vocal in that same range. It's a noticeable change in the drum sound. I didn't really want to do that, but I think you have to sacrifice that if it's in the way of the vocal. And I don't think it really killed the drums. and I love the loud toms.

fullbirdmusic - thanks for listening and I'm glad you like the song. I played a lot with the relative levels of lead and backing vocals. Yeah they're kind of skewed from what you normally hear, but I like the way they play together in the chorus.

Greg - I'll play with the tom panning. I remember having difficulty finding a good spot to pan them. I remember I finally gave up and said, "I'm just leaving the mf-ers where they are." I might listen to the OH's in headphones to try to get a location for them. And yeah the drums get buried a bit in the chorus, but I wanted to have the vocals predominant there. I even pulled the rhythm guitars down about 2dbs in the chorus to get them out of the way. I don't think anybody noticed.
