Im sorta new to all this recording stuff...well thats strictly not true, i just havent bothered spending money on it!!
from speaking to people i have worked out i need a soundcard, condensor mic, and a nice preamp... so ive been looking around.. this is what looks okay to me, i just need to know whats reccomended?

Pre-amp:
Art micromix phantom powered mic preamp - £50
Behringer tube ultragain mic100 - £40
Midiman audiobuddy dual mic preamp/di box - £60 (note this is two seperate preamps)
Or getting a mixer and using the preamps in that - roughly £80???

-Can i use a preamp on my guitar direct rather than mic'ing an amp ?
-If i get a soundcard and 2 preamps doi really need a mixer?

Soundcard:
Terratec dmx 6fire 24/96 - £120
M Audio delta 44 - £120
st audio dsp 2x2 24/96 - £85 (this one you can buy a daughterboard for £40 to make it 4x4... so im thinking i can upgrade when it suits me)
m audio delta audiophile 2496 - £70

Condensor mics:
i have no idea... they all look the same! i want to buy 2, for under £110? and i need them for vocals, acoustic guitar, micing an amp... maybe drums(a dream as i know i need more than 2 mics!) ? im wondering whether to get one or two pretty good mic's or get 3-4 okay mics for the same overall price that are tailored for specific jobs?

wow... sorta long post! well thats about it, and help would be welcomed :)

Search the 'The Rack' forum here - there's mega-info there.

Soundcard:
Again, the forum entitled 'Computer Recording and Soundcards' has more info than you can possibly digest in a week.

Condensor mics
Try our own 'Microphones' forum. Bet they won't all look the same when you're through there...
