Hi Guys
First time poster long time lurker.
Ive done quite a bit of research on the options available to me using lots of your advice so thanks in advance for that.
Basically, Ive finally got the money to set our band up with a decent enough rig for recording our own stuff. Having looked around and got the basics of what we need, I thought Id feel a lot better parting with the cash if I get some pointers here first.
So....
We are a 4 piece rock band who want to multi track. So we need to be able to record about 8 max inputs simultaneously.
Ive already bought myself a decent laptop, and have a copy of cubase something or other
Intel i-7 core 2.3ghz processor, 6gb ram, usb 2.0 etc etc.
I think i need to cover the following bases.
1. Mics.
Remember we are on a budget. Ive seen decent reviews on here of the samson c02s and Qkicks, and would probably get a 57 for snares and guitar micing. Then use the existing vocal mics I have to fill the gaps (toms etc). The AT 2020 looks a decent option for vocals and acoustic guitars. - £280ish
2. USB Audio Interface - 8 inputs.
Thinking the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R??? This seems to be one area where we will defo be ok, seems like a lot of gear for the cash. - £315ish
3. Monitors.
Seems to be a bloody minefield. tannoy reveals?? Rokits?? Yamaha hs50m??? Either way Im looking at the best part of £250 here.
That leaves me with about £200 for cables, stands and maybe a multicore to get out of the drum room, anything else Ive not thought about?
Like i said, Ive tried to research a lot, but if Ive missed something obvious or you know of anything that I should check out, please please chime in, because once this money is spent theres no more! And we want a setup that will see us making good quality recordings for a while. Basically, if you had £1000 to spend on a full set up minus the computer, where would your cash be going?
Many many thanks in advance,
Matt
