Looking at the specs below
Any sugestions? Are they good, acceptable, or KEEP AWAY?

what you think of the specs
 
It was EAX, EMU, Surround 5.1... :D
Anyway, that's a good spec. But as the word good is relative, then we may need to know good for what ? :) What's the goal ?

For recording
i have ordered a terratec 6 fire due in next week but a friend of mine is breaking my balls saying the sb is better......
by posting the specs here i want to see what people think of the above steps for recording purposes as not many do know the specs of the EX 2

I MEANT TO SAY THE ABOVE specs not STEPS
 
They both (SB card & Terratec) is indeed a good card of their own. I mean, Terratec would be better if you deal almost with audio instead of MIDI. While SB cards have unbeatable Soundfonts in MIDI section. I didn't see anything wrong with the spec. All you may want to concern is what features will you need from the card beside regular recording & playback audio (eg. multi input simultaneous, digital I/O, etc, etc...) And in case you need to know "the best" soundcard for home studio...

Don't worry about bullshit specs. Look at the construction of the card and what sort of physical connections it has. Then look at the rep it has among users.
 
How many times we got to tell you. SB's suck for recording. On a more professional level that is.;)

I know i have heard many times
i have to convince a friend of mine and by showing him replies i might be able to.........
 
the specs are allright but inputs are on mini jacks, and it's consumer line level -10dBV, you can't even plug a V-amp2 into the darn thingy.

Delta 44 with 4-in 4-out +4/-10 switchable, great converters but no midi, is alot better for serious stuff (you can plug pro and non pro gear into it, and monitor on your consumer level stereo) With omni IO you get two headphone outs and mic/instrument inputs, but still no midi...

for midi and sound fonts get yourself a SBlive + kx drivers sitting next to the delta and you're ready to pull out some good vibes

a bit more expensive but definitely worth it IMO

Tell your friend: Steer clear of Creative Cards. They are not meant for serious recording work. There are too many limitations and compromises to make them contenders in the pro-audio league.

Yes - but look at the specs... Creative's creative advertising hyperbole.

Congratulation on your Terratec choice. You will not be disappointed. It will piss all over your mates SB...
