Right now I own a shitty toshiba laptop computer on which I have put a copy of cakewalk.
I choose not use this program because everything I put into sounds like poo through my computer's speakers (yes, I know that is common sense). What I would like to know is whether better speakers for my computer would help my situation, or would I need a better sound card. And whether one can change the sound card on this particular device. Sorry, I dont have the specs, but I will get them for you tomorrow. Thanx for the help.

You can look into a USB soundcard, and yes, definately speakers, if not studio monitors. If you invest in a USB solution you can use it if you change to a desktop. The Sound Blaster Extigy looks OK for a budget, but it looks like they're trying to hide something about 24/96 recording on their website. If your not on a budget, take a look around www.musiciansfriend.com to see what's out there. I'm out of date on soundcard imformation.
