Hello,
I have an old Philips stereo tuner/amplifier that i would like to use to drive two power hungry Cerwin Vega 12's. unfortunatly, this amp can only crank out 42 watts per channel. So what i would like to do is buy a power amp (like a pyle pt1000) to drive the woofers while the old amp drives mids and tweets. Problem is that this old 70's amp doesnt have pre-outs. This means that i am going to have to pad the outputs then connect to the subwoofer amp. Do you guys think this pyle is a good choice for this application? am i missing something here? The woofers are Cerwin Vega 12" DVC 4 ohm 200w rms. The pyle can crank out 225w per channel at 2 ohms. thanks for your help!

With the work you'd need to get done on the tuner, you'd be far better off just buying another more powerful tuner.

Not sure what the setup is- crossovers, bi-amp..?
I was thinking direct boxes that will tap off speaker level and pad it down (but that might be to mic level.. hmm.

the setup is bi-amp, i am trying to basically boost power for subwoofers using and external secondary amplifier. Its a 7961 Philips receiver.

Perfect, that helps alot. What kind of amp would you guys recommend? I hope to find one with old style Vu meters.
